Getting to Grassy Head Beach

From the south turn off the Pacific Highway at Kempsey onto the Stuarts Point turnoff 13km north of Clybucca. Follow Stuarts Point Road for 9km before turning left onto Grassy Head Road. Follow Grassy Head Road for 3.5km and turn right into Reserve Road passing through the holiday park to the beach entrance.

Follow Stuarts Point Road for 9km before turning left onto Grassy Head Road. Follow Grassy Head Road for 3.5km and turn right into Reserve Road passing through the holiday park to the beach entrance.

Beaches and Surfing at Grassy Head Beach

Located directly opposite the Grassy Head Holiday Park. Grassy Head Beach is an excellent surfing beach with a great right hander peeling off the point and a beach break further up the beach that shifts as the sand bar forms and reforms. Grassy Head Beach is also suited to snorkelling on calmer days where you can slowly work your way around the rocks observing the scores of fish that inhabit the area. If sunbaking and swimming is more your thing then make your way to the protected corners of the beach at either end for a refreshing dip. On some days you can be lucky enough to score the beach all to yourself, others you have to share paradise with the friendly locals that are more than happy to reveal to you why they call Grassy Head home.

Surf Lifesaving Patrol – Yes on weekends (October to April) and during the holiday season. Always swim between the flags and obey the life guards

Things to see and do at Grassy Head Beach

Located adjacent to the Grassy Head Holiday Park is a unpaved walking track that traces past a monument and up to a scenic lookout that looks over Stuarts Point to South West Rocks in the distance. See the Macleay River’s past and present river mouth, the various macadamia nut and avocado farms and the majestic Smoky Cape near South West Rocks named by Captain Cook after he saw local fires lit by the aborigines.
